Can the Xbox 360 transfer cable (Shown here: http://xbox360media.ign.com/xbox360/image/article/783/783873/xbox-360-hard-drive-transfer-20070426021943688-000.jpg ) be used to (instead of transferring) plug my hard-drive into my slim and have it act like a normal hard-drive? I need this so that i can download things from the marketplace and to do other things that I can't without an Xbox hard-drive...

No. If you tether it with the cable, you can only use it like a USB device. You'd have to format it which is not a good idea for an official hard drive and it wouldn't act like an actual 360 hard drive anymore.
